Beautiful drill, no bits
"I am so pleased to have purchased this beautiful and sturdy drill for my son. I was just disappointed to find it did not come with any drill bits as pictured. Power tools we own have come with bits, so I assumed this one would as well. Would be nice to clarify on the product page so purchasers know to add bits to their order. Otherwise, I’m very pleased!"
Great repro
"Extremely high quality reproduction. Moderately heavy and feels great in your hand"
Old Fashioned Drill
"I love this manual, hand-powered drill. I think my grandfather had one of these. What a fantastic work of craftmanship and symbol of tradition. Every hardworking gent needs to brandish one of these!"
Drill of my dreams.
"I was very pleased when my new Garret Wade traditional hand drill arrived. Not only did it come in a timely manner, but it exceeded expectations. I have been looking for a traditional hand drill for many years with little success, and when a friend suggested your site, I was pleased to find exactly what I was looking for in short order. It is not only well constructed, but aesthetically pleasing, too. I look forward to exploring your product line further in the future for my shop needs."
Quality drill for the money
"This is a full size egg beater with solid metal hardware and wooden handles. You get a lot for your money. The only minor issue I had was the gears were a bit rough, but a bit of oil and using it fixed that. If you want a hand drill, this is a good one to get."
What I was looking for.
"What I was looking for."
Quality Drill
"I bought a manual drill from Garrett Wade and I'm happy with my purchase. You can see the craftsmanship that went into making it. Good price too!"
Okay drill but has a catch with the gears
"Nice hand drill. The only problem I have with it are the two round gears that move up and down which often create a catch or a bump when you turn the crank to drill."
I wanted a hand-driven drill
"I wanted a hand-driven drill to do small things. This works great, well constructed, and should last generations. The price was great for the quality."
Disappointed
"I purchased this to do a maker unit with kids. We are drilling through balsa wood so I figured it would be fine. It is not strong enough. There is a rough part in the gears where it catches each time. If you can get it to go through the bit falls out as you try to back out. I want my dad’s old one from the days when they made super quality stuff. Now I will have to drill the holes for the kids instead of them doing it themselves and getting experience with using hand tools. Because you are a quality place that does maker materials I thought I could trust the product. Guess not…."
Q&A
- What is the gear tooth count. I am looking for one of these for a project and I need a 56 tooth crank gear with double 12 tooth pinion gears.
- Adam, If you can wait till Monday, I will get the answer for you. I'm out of the office today and will respond Monday.
- I like that it comes with a keyless chuck and a second (side) handle! Many don't. Some info not on page: Add a photo of the backside to reveal if it's single or double pinion drive; ID chuck size (3/8" or 1/4"?); ID material of pinion gear(s) & plate gear; perhaps add country of origin (USA great, but others can be good, too.)
- Paul, Its a 1/4" chuck but I managed to fit a 9/32" bit in there too. I'll send a photo to your e-mail separately . Its all steel ( except for the wooden handles) and is made in India. Thank you.
- I would think you should specify what sizes of drills it can accommodate?!
- Robert, yes , you are right. The max size drill bit is 1/4" shank. Thank you.
- So, is the red part also cast iron? It looks like plastic in the photo.
- Terry, yes, the red part is metal ...not sure if it's cast iron or steel, but definitely metal. Thank you.
