Description
Birmingham, England, was once known as the "Workshop of the World," an industrial city at the leading edge of the Industrial Revolution and one of civilization's great manufacturing hubs. Most of those old factories and shops are long gone, but some remain- and are operating much like they did way back when. This whistle first made history in 1883, when the London Metropolitan Police were looking for a portable noisemaker to replace the large wooden rattlers officers had to lug around. Whistle maker Joseph Hudson saw an opportunity to expand his struggling business, and history was made: the Metropolitan whistle became standard issue across Victorian London. Between 1939 and 1945, the Metropolitan whistle was also issued to British officers serving in World War II, and this replica model is made in the same shop, using some of the original tooling and dies that created the originals. There is nothing quite like the famous sound of this two-tone whistle. Whether you are a collector, reenactor, or just need a keychain whistle for emergencies, this is a unique and beautifully handmade piece of history. The story goes that Joseph Hudson insisted on personally blowing every whistle that left his factory. That level of care and attention to detail still exists today if you know where to look.
