Description

In our opinion, there are none that are better.  The premium Pruner is 8" long and is made using the finest forged steel and precisely ground by the in France maker (a medium-sized family company that markets primarily in Europe) for smooth, fast cutting.  The real leather grips indicate the measure of respect that the maker insists be given his work.  A belt-loop leather real holster is also available to keep the tool at the ready by your side.

The smaller 6" Bypass Trimming Pruner is made from the same materials but the smaller size of the cutting jaws dictates that limited cutting capacity and are therefore not as elaborately ground as are the Premium Pruners.  Nor do they need to be as the virtue of this smaller size is its maneuverability and its ability to work in tight spaces during close trimming.  It's a very popular tool for these reasons.  This Pruner also has a real leather holster but it has to be carried in the pocket as there is no loop for a belt to be threaded through.

"Bought one 10 years ago and am still using it. At that time I paid $69. 00 for it which included the holster. This is not of the same quality as my first one but I wanted a second one. Even though the quality has diminished I will give it the same workout as my older one and hope it stands the test. My only complaint at this time is that it is a bit pricey. But if it lasts 10 years or more like my old pair I'll have no complaints."

Elated!

"On the hunt for a perfect pair of pruners for a very picky horticultural husband, I came across Garret Wade's French Pruners. I was very impressed with the craftsmanship and integrity of Wade. I purchased these and am happy to report my husband was elated! They cut tree limbs like butter and their beauty is incomparable. The leather handles with matching holster is eye appealing, practical for use and excellent grip. Definitely everything promised from the website. May 2019 Rate & Review Honorable Mention $50 Winner. Congratulations, Christina!!"

Nice but Rusty

"The pruners work very good. My problem is that they rusted within a year—all metal parts. I have never left them out in the weather. I imagine they will wear out sooner than expected due to the rust."

Real old time quality

"I bought a pair that is second handed and used fairly well. I honed my blade with a fine diamond stone and it is razor sharp. After some gun cleaner and re oil, these babies are a beast. I use a light coat of mink oil on the handles to bring life back to the leather. A real cold hard tip to anyone needed a left handed or right handed pruner, just flip them. It’s not that big of a issue and they cut just the same."

The full size model -- still going strong, 6 yr+

"These French bypass shears are a mainstay in my garden, month after year. I really put them through their paces. Grips are still tight (I used the same wax/oil preservative that I mentioned for the small size pair, and the leather is still in fine shape even though I clean the blade and hinge with soap water if they get too gunky. Blade stays sharp and works well on dry wood as well (usually bypass are not as good as anvil for this job). A customer wrote in another review that there was a problem with a gap between blade and the fixed jaw. The tool is adjustable via the screw nut -- a small wrench or even a channel lock plier is sufficient. Just a little turn is enough, do it after you're touched up the edge with a fine grit diamond honing paddle. Don't crank it too tight, just enough so that you hear the schick sound of the blade contacting the jaw, and the handles still spring back when you let go. I can get mine to where they will cut thin paper -- at that point the branches don't stand a chance! With heavy use, I need to adjust the screw about once per season. French Gardeniing Pruners

"I've had these for several years. The issue is that the cutting blade is only held in place by compression, and it tends to get loose. You then end up with a gap between the blade and the piece that is supposed to stop the cut. When using them on things like roses in the spring, what happens is that the combination essentially crushes what you were trying to cut. This makes spring pruning laborious and frustrating."

Great support from Garrett Wade

"I've had the Bypass Trimmer for over a year and have put it through some tough work and treatment. Always performed admirably. Recently lost the spring while working in vines. I contacted Garrett and they kindly and promptly sent me a free spring replacement."

Superior French hand pruners

"I bought these for my loyally French wife who is delighted with the quality, ease of cutting and the simple design of the handle lock. They compare very favorably with the acknowledged best, the Felco F-2 Classic. Hopefully they will last as long. I, and others in my family who purchased from Garrett Wade, felt that the shipping charge was too high, compare with other on-line sites. Either it includes a hidden charge or the company needs to negotiate a better contract with UPS or someone else."

French hand pruners

"I have had these pruners for ten years now. The only difficulty has been the spare springs for the return. I have tried to contact Garrett-Wade several times to purchase these spring units without success because without the ability to replace the spring, I would need to purchase a new pruner just to have the spring assembly."

I love these guys

"i used this pruner for the first time today to thin out my badly overgrown lemon tree. It does a great job on both green and dead branches of varying sizes. It cuts them with very little effort. I find the leather handles very ergonomic for my small to medium sized hands. I had to stop pruning since I was having so much fun."
