Description
Hand stropping removes the micro-burrs from the edge of a cutting edge that inevitably result from any grinding or honing process. Stropping is the final step usually skipped, which produces the razor like edges that denote a really sharp plane blade, chisel or knife. And the reason that it is skipped is the lack of a good stropping surface.
Leather surfaces traditionally make the very best Strops and this Kit includes a stiff-backed wood frame, two special (3 x 12") leather surfaces fixed to wooden paddles fitted with rare-earth magnets that clip in the frame. The leather surfaces are used sequentially: initial stropping with the napped (rough, gold or gold/grey colored) leather and finish stropping with the smooth leather (brown). Extra napped leathers are available if you wish to use different honing pastes. The stropping kit does not include the English bridle leather or the rouge. Both are great add on's and sold separately. Complete instructions are provided.
To get an exceptional edge for fine knives, an optional premium English Bridle Leather surface is also available for super finishing. This is a thoroughly professional kit and will provide results that you will find astonishing. Highly recommended for the demanding tool lover.

"Very nice product but beware. The paste doesn’t not come with the strop. Feel this is an inappropriate picture to use and the reference to the word ‘kit’. "Heads up to buyers! Even through the stropping rouge compound is featured in every photo of the kit it is not included. The Optional Rouge line item is not for an additional jar but for any at all! I was really excited to get sharpening and now I have to wait on another order with additional shipping :( Customer service was really nice and apparently this happens all the time. Everything that was included looks great and well made. Just wanted to save the next gal the disappointment"

"I'm rewriting a review because I've changed my mind about this strop. Initially I was happy with the strops base, and with the included regular leather strip + additional nap leather I ordered. They were very nice. . . However, the couple bridle leathers (which I bought it mainly for) came pretty beat up. I'm not sure if they were damaged in storage or shipping or what but they were quite damaged, and I must've been in a bad mood because I immediately wrote out a bad review for the bridle leather additions. I talked to Garrett wade though. . . and they exchanged them for me and the bridle leathers were quite nice the second time around. Now I'm very happy and I feel a bit silly for jumping the gun. Stuff happens. . . and in the end it wasn't a bad product but just damaged, and they made it right. . . The whole kit is reaaally nice now, and the bridle leather that I really wanted is very smooth and functional. A huge upgrade from my old strop. I doubt I could be any happier with any other strop. Gotta also thank Garrett wades customer service for putting up with my knee jerk, unfriendly, response. I feel better now!"

"As usual the products sold by GW are first rate and always as described. This tool is an addendum to my sharpening schedule. I've used strops to put the finish on the finished edges of my woodworking tools as well as my finer kitchen knives and sometimes even my pocket knife gets the treatment as well. If you've never stropped, you don't know what you're missing."

While the images may show additional tools for sharpening, those items are not included in the kit and are for demonstration purposes only. The kit provides everything you need to properly maintain and hone your blades.
