Description
This new hatchet is terrific around the house or the campsite, and comes with our logo laser-etched onto the USA hickory handle. The steel head is the same as our popular Yankee Hatchet, but at a generous 27", the handle is much longer, so it provides additional momentum when chopping kindling, splitting small log rounds, or clearing brush. The head is secured with a Beech wedge and a steel ring. The bright red on the handle end makes it easy to spot on the ground. Made to our specifications in Germany by a well-known foundry.

"Finish wasn't perfect (had some bubbles in the varnish, some red paint splattered on the handle) and the head wasn't symmetrical. But when I started using it, that didn't matter anymore since it cut twice as fast as a hatchet and stayed sharp. Handle feels comfortable."

Perfect little axe
"It is a good axe for camping or keeping in your vehicle. The only faults I can really mention is there is a slight gap between the eye and the handle, being able to see light through the eye. It's not much, but noticeable by my OCD. Also, although the head is solid, it would be somewhat better, at least to me, if at the very top, instead of being flushed to the head, have a small bit of the handle be about 1/8"" -1/4"" proud to better flair out just a bit. All in all though, a very good axe, one I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again or to recommend to my friends. Garrett Wade shipped in a very timely manner, dispite the severe weather conditions."

"Perfect size for general chores/camping. Lighter and shorter than my felling ax, this ax is lighter and shorter but still has enough weight in the head to do damage. I sanded the handle with finer grit and polyurethaned. Super smooth and silky until your hands slide to the red paint job. Again, I really like this ax."

- Laura, I checked some that I have here and they are sharp. However with use it will need sharpening. A relatively inexpensive fine mill file will do the job of sharpening the axe. Thank you.
