Description

The Adze has been around almost forever. Shipwrights, carpenters, and railroaders all had their own version of it. Archaeologists have found stone-relief sculptures of Egyptian boat-makers using the tool, and indigenous tribes of the Pacific Northwest used the Adze for both the practical (canoes) and the ceremonial/artistic (masks and totem poles). Adzes continue to be useful in artisanal woodworking tasks such as beam-making and sculpture. Learn more about how the Adze could become the next essential in your tool chest today!

Adze

"I recently purchased a Hand Adze from Garrett Wade and it is everything that is was advertised to be. It is also a beautifully made tool, as are all of Garrett Wade's tools that I have purchased. I have not done a project with it, but I did experiment with it on a birch log and I am anxious to do a project with the adze."

Solid well made

"I purchased this adze to rough carve pine, basswood and cherry blanks. The adze came sharp and ready to hack! Well made, solid and with good balance. Chops accurately and takes out just the right amount of wood for roughing. Perfect for my needs, definitely recommend."

Disappointed in it

"I was looking for a bowl adze to carve 2 10' totem poles this spring. Several from overseas vendors had great ratings and lower prices but long lead times to get them. I saw no ratings on this one but took a chance. I expected some semi sharp edge on it When it came it wouldn't cut into green basswood. It took me 3 full hours with new half round files then an other hour hand honing it to a proper cutting edge. At the price you charge it should of come this sharp in the first place At 72 i no longer have the proper equipment to make my own or power hone it. Like i said in my title i am disappointed in"
