Large 19th Century Brass Oil Lantern
$149.00Description
At nearly 17" tall, this handcrafted brass and glass lantern holds its own on a sideboard or porch table. Modeled on 19th-century oil lanterns, it’s as useful in a power outage as it is handsome at a dinner party.
A reflective brass shade directs the light downward into a focused pool. The flame sits inside a glass bulb, and an adjustable wick lets you turn it low for atmosphere or up when you need to see. A hook on top lets you carry it through a dark house or yard, or hang it beside your favorite reading chair. It burns lamp oil or kerosene for 6 to 7 hours on a fill, and the wick is replaceable.
One thing to know before you buy: for all its size, the lantern holds only 0.8 to 1 oz of oil, so a long evening may call for a refill.
The glass and brass get hot during use, so let the lantern cool before refilling it. As with any open flame, keep it where you can see it.
Measures 9" L x 7.75" W x 16.75" H.
