Description

The Pickaroon is a tool for safely moving cut logs, known as “rounds.” The heads of these two, commissioned at a third generation German foundry, are the same size, with different handle lengths. The longer one (31") is great for wrangling larger logs, and the shorter (15") is great for moving shorter sections. The handles of both are American Hickory, nicely shaped, and the heads are forged steel.

With the curved beak-like precision point driven into a log, a round can be pulled, flung, rolled and pitched where needed with a surprising degree of leverage. These are two exceptional tools that will make your life easier when you take on the job of being Paul Bunyan. Available in a shorter length.

"I am still learning to efficiently use the tool. It will definitely save your back. I have been thinking about adding a looped cord in the handle's end to aid in the dragging of short logs. Thus far, I am very satisfied with the quality of the tool."

Great tool for easily picking-up logs and splits

"As a younger man, I thought pickaroons were a lazy man tool. I could just as well manipulate logs, gather and pick-up splits, or pulp toss them, without more than my axe. Who needed a ""pick-up tool?"" As a now older axe man, these pickaroons are dandy. They save your back and core strength for the actual chopping or splitting and ease subsequent soreness that comes with aging. I recommend getting the long handle version of this tool, as it diminishes the need to do a bunch of bending or stooping to pick-up logs or spits from the ground (the short handle version not-as-well). You operate these by swinging them into the end grain of logs or splits, then pick-up the piece of wood by the handle of the tool, then a small twist of the head disengages the ""hook"" when you've laid the wood where you want it. It takes small experience to develop the most efficient force to swing the pickaroon (not full swing, but not too gentle swing either, and varying a bit by the size of the target piece of wood), also you will get hang of the aim needed too. The GarrettWade pickaroons are quality made; the hickory handle feels good in hand and is sturdy. It's especially nice accessory alongside their splitting axe. I gave one of these pickaroons to an even older uncle that splits a lot of firewood and is really handy. He decided to re-grind the point a bit to what he thinks worked best. I've used mine right out of the box with no complaints. Highly recommended if you move many fireplace length logs and split them, and might be feeling your age a bit."

Super well crafted, good weight

"Super well crafted, good weight and balance in hand. . Is a dream for moving large logs and fallen trees, by driving spike into one end, pulling. in an arc, then doing same thing on other end and pulling in an arc, wiggling the tree back and forth like this I moved a very heavy tree to where I needed it on my own. . A real back saver! I wish I would. have bought one of these many years ago."
