Pruning happens at a variety of heights, and this set covers almost all of your pruning needs. All three saws have wood handles and aggressive teeth in the Japanese pattern, cutting on the pull stroke. Every saw is fully serviceable, so a worn blade means a new blade, and you keep the saw. 

48" Pole Saw: A 13" blade of heavy-gauge steel with tri-edge teeth at 6 points per inch, on a 30" contoured, laminated handle. Cutting on the pull makes overhead work a good deal less tiring. 

13" Pruning Saw: The same style of tri-edge tooth, with a contoured, laminated handle and a plastic sheath for the walk back to the shed. 

Folding Saw: A 7" blade of 19-gauge saw steel with 8 lance teeth per inch and an 8-7/8" wood handle. It handles branches too thick for loppers or pruners, then folds shut. 

A word on reach: 48" is the length of the pole saw itself, so with your arms raised, it gets you to branch a few feet above your head. That covers most fruit trees and ornamentals. For limbs high up in a mature shade tree, you’ll want a longer pole or an arborist.
