"If matches had royalty, these would be the sovereigns. I wanted to have a firestarter of some sort in my day pack, and the kit was on sale, so I bought it. In the kit, you get the little waterproof plastic cannister crammed full of these matches. There is a replaceable striking surface on the outside of the cannister, and two extra strips of this striking material, sealed in plastic, are stuck in with the matches. In addition, you get two regular cardboard boxes of these matches in the kit, each with two extra strips of striking material. I did not count them, but I have no doubt that there were 25 matches in each container, for a total of 75 with the kit. I discovered that striking one of these is more like lighting a flare than a match. Really, the flame is unbelievable. It also produces an acrid, chemical odor which, together with the brilliant flame, suggests these are best for outdoor use. The first one I struck was in a breeze that would have extinguished a lesser Lucifer, but this one burned merrily, long enough to get the fire started. Intrigued, I tried soaking one in water, head down, for about five minutes. I then dried it off with a rag, and it lit on the first strike. Maybe a little less energetically than the dry one, but with an impressive flare nonetheless. I also tried striking one on 220 grit sandpaper, but with no luck. Gone are the days of the strike-anywhere matches, which I have seen horny-handed old-timers light with a flick of the thumbnail. However, with the extra striking material thoughtfully provided with each container of these storm-proof matches, this should not be a problem. In summary, these matches are everything GW claims. Maybe more. With a pack of these on your person, you will be regarded as the Prometheus of your campground."
