Horn combs are virtually unavailable now. Most combs are either made of plastic, rubber or some artificial material. And because Horn Combs are so rare now, little is remembered about how good they are to use and how nice they are to our hair and scalp. They absorb oils, do not produce static electricity and are much easier to use, even on tangled hair. We have found a firm in France that still makes one-piece combs of natural horn entirely by hand, using 36 individual steps - pressing, sawing, cutting and intensive hand polishing. The result is a comb that is rounded and smooth.Proof of the use of natural horn lies in the fact that every comb has a very slight lengthwise curve. Because this is a natural material, significant variations in grain and color and in size should be expected. This is a 6 1/2" Version; a 5" version is also available (02D07.13) Get a set of all five for yourself, friends or family. Made In France.

That said, I can’t help but compare it to the older combs Garrett Wade used to sell from the same maker. Those were more finely finished — the polish was deeper, the edges softer, and the craftsmanship had that extra degree of refinement that made them feel special. This current version is still a good piece, and I’m glad to have it. But if you’ve handled one of the earlier runs, you’ll know exactly what’s missing. It’s a fine comb — just not quite the small masterpiece it once was."

Earth-Friendly and durable
"A beautiful comb I feel good about. I'm in Michigan, where we deal with static almost year around. I did not notice much difference between my plastic combs and this one on static. My standard plastic comb is 7. 25"" and tapers down from 1. 5"" to 1. 25"" with the longest teeth being just under 1"". The Purse Horn comb length is 6. 5"" and the longest teeth are . 75"" The Horn comb is a tiny bit thicker as well. But it's a cool comb and comes with a very nice leather case. It is great for a purse or pocket or car. I personally really like it. I think it makes use of animal by-products in a useful way that is more environmentally friendly, but I did not research that, so . . . it's just my opinion. I would not buy it for a vegan friend. I love Garrett Wade for their eye for providing very high-quality products hard to find elsewhere."
