Description

The “spun” in spun-iron is formed by spinning a disc of iron on a lathe and forming it over a mold.  The primary handle on this pan is 11" long to keep your hands away from the heat, while the 3" wide short handle in the front is meant to stabilize your grip when transporting your food from the stove to the oven and vice versa.  This gorgeous, matte-black fry pan has similar properties to cast iron: it heats up evenly therefore it will cook and bake evenly; and it is nearly indestructible so it will last a lifetime, with minimal routine care (you’ll want to pass this down to the next generation).  Spun-iron has one advantage over cast-iron: it is much lighter (generally half the weight), which you’ll appreciate as you move from stove-top, to oven, to table top.  This Classic design makes a wonderful presentation dish for a quiche, fruit pie, or cobbler; or, simply make your eggs and hash in it. Pre-seasoned with flax oil to give a natural, no-stick coating.  Works on all range and oven types, whether gas, electric, convection, even wood-burning.

Made by a small foundry in Shropshire, UK which is, fittingly, where the Industrial Revolution started. 12” diameter x 1-½” deep.

Very Interesting

"I have used this pan for about a week. Purchased after seeing a video about Netherton and how spun iron is made. It is indeed much lighter than cast iron and even the few carbon steel pans I have. I expect it will season up beautifully over time. I understand why it's not sold with the wooden handles I've seen on it - and I do want to put it in the oven. But the hand without them is really not easy to hold. That's the only downside. For the price, this is an excellent pan, much cheaper than forged steel."

All items ordered thru you

"All items ordered thru you were gifts to our sons and grandsons. They started to look forward to Christmas gifts purchased thru you. We are very satisfied with everything we have gotten from you. Boys with frypans love them!"

these were gifts for family

"these were gifts for family and I haven't heard back from them. But they did request them."

Best cast iron pan Íve ever used!

"Not sure what it is, but this pan cooks everything even better than my classic cast iron and beloved Calphalon. Thanks!!"

Comment about Rivets

"Give the consumer what they want, not what they need. Consumers like the look and idea of riveted handles. The truth about rivets is they are difficult to season and clean around. Welded handles are just as strong as riveted handles and pans with welded handles are much easier to season, maintain, and clean."

fry pan

"The only reason this gets 3 stars is because it's too big. an 8 or 10 incher would be more useable. It is light for its size compared to cast iron, but the size makes this one inconvenient"

Needs a better handle

"This pan is actually a great pan as far as cooking with it and ease of cleanup. What i think needs improvement is the handle. The length is ok but it is so long that if you slightly bounce the pan up and down, for instance flipping what your cooking, the handle flexes. Even with an empty pan. What happens if you have food in it? The handle needs beefing up or made shorter."
