21-Step Secret Puzzle Box Made in Japan
The earliest versions of Himitsu-Bako (Puzzle Box) were simple one or two step designs designed for hiding trinkets and such. As time went on they became more and more elaborate, with an increasing number of moves required to open and unlock their secrets. The skill and precision that go into their creation are considerable, and this craftsmanship is matched by the beautiful exterior design: an inlaid marquetry mosaic known as Yosegi-Zaiku.
Made by combining multiple types of woods of different shades and colors, the resulting patterned block is then sliced very thinly and inlaid into the box surface. This beautiful version calls for a full 21 specific micro-moves to open it, and will impress your friends (and confound any prying intruders). Made in Japan.
